NORWALK – Friday nights belong to middle school students at My Three Sons.
The family entertainment business on Wall Street will launch its Teen Society initiative this Friday as the Nathan Hall Middle School PTO will sponsor a dance party. The other middle schools in the city are also scheduled to hold similar events on different Friday nights.
Jason Petrini, son of My Three Sons owner Jerry Petrini, came up with the idea of the Teen Society to address the lack of activities for middle school students in the city, he said.
“Middle school is a transition period and there’s really nothing to do in town for those students,” Jason Petrini said. “There’s a demand for things to do for young teens. This is a safe and secure activity for them.”
Petrini acknowledges that by middle school many children have outgrown My Three Sons, but the Teen Society events are designed with middle schoolers in mind. The party will include a dance floor with fog and lighting, professional DJ, eight Xbox 1 video consoles, unlimited Laser Tag, Balladium and Laser Maze, as well as pizza and soda. Birthday students automatically receive VIP treatment.
Jason Petrini called upon his experience as a night club promoter to plan the outing.
The event is open to all students of the middle school that is holding the event. Teachers and administrators of the school are invited as well. The cost of the event is set by the respective school’s PTO and $5 from each ticket sold goes to the PTO. Some schools, Petrini said, use the event as an incentive, such as offering free admission for outstanding homework effort.
“In a dying economy a lot of programs are being cut at schools and PTOs can earn a lot of money holding these events,” he said. “They can make more than $1,000 in two hours. They would otherwise have trouble making that much in two weeks.”
My Three Sons purchased the Xbox 1 consoles and eight 60-inch televisions for the Teen Society. Age-appropriate games will be offered.
Jason Petrini worked with Nathan Hale PTO President Jim Anderson to organize the first Teen Society event.
“Without question this is a good thing,” Anderson said. “My Three Sons is doing a great service for this age group. It’s kind of a forgotten segment, the pre-teens and young teens. The Petrinis went out of their way to make it fun for middle school students.”
Friday is the first official Teen Society event, but Jason Petrini has lofty goals for the concept. He envisions the Teen Society one day having its own storefront and the events expanding to include services such as tutoring and guest speakers. Community service will be required of the members, Petrini said.
My Three Sons has been in Norwalk for 23 years and supporting the community has always been an integral part of the business, Jerry Petrini said.
“Parents of the middle school children can be assured that their kids will be in a safe, controlled, and wholesome environment,” he said. “The same management team and principles that have made us so successful for 23 years will be in place – along with a few more security measures.”
